Balad (arabisch Ψ¨Ω„Ψ―, DMG Balad) ist ein irakischer Ort im Gouvernement Salah ad-Din.

Der Ort liegt rund 50 km nΓΆrdlich von Bagdad. Balad ist Haltebahnhof der Bagdadbahn. WΓ€hrend des Irakkrieges 2006 kam es zu gewalttΓ€tigen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen sunnitischen und schiitischen KΓ€mpfern.cite-ref-1[1]

Bis zum Abzug der Amerikanischen StreitkrÀfte im Dezember 2011 befand sich in Balad die grâßte US-amerikanische MilitÀrbasis, die Joint Base Balad, im Ort.cite-ref-2[2] Im Dezember 2014 wurden schiitische KÀmpfer durch Einheiten des Islamischen Staates getâtet.cite-ref-3[3] Dem Islamischen Staat gelang es im Dezember 2014 aber nicht, den belagerten Ort einzunehmen.cite-ref-4[4]
